Plymouth is Britain’s Ocean City, a vibrant, waterfront city that cares about its environment.
The Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum (TECF) is a collaborative partnership bringing together the key authorities responsible for the management of the tidal waters of Plymouth Sound and Estuaries Marine Protected Area. Under the chair of the King’s Harbour Master, members consist of five local authorities, four harbour authorities, Natural England, Environment Agency, Marine Management Organisation, Duchy of Cornwall, National Landscapes, and both Devon and Severn, and Cornwall Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities The TECF co-ordinator has been hosted at Plymouth City Council (PCC) since it was first established in the early 1990s.
Plymouth City Council is Britian’s Ocean City and one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities that strives to have sustainability, nature and the environment at its heart. In 2019 it was declared a Britain’s first National Marine Park with the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park Horizon’s Project securing funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2023.
As a local authority PCC is a member of TECF and responsible, through the Plymouth and South Devon Joint Local Plan, for the delivery of the statutory Marine Recreational Mitigation and Management Scheme alongside the other local authorities that border the Plymouth Sound and Estuaries (PSE) SAC.
Together TECF and PCC will work with local stakeholders and ensure the work of ReMEDIES is heard across the city through educational summer roadshows, information boards and useful guides to help local people learn about the Ocean. We will lead on surveys and engagement activities to assess recreational activities and impacts, and encourage sensitive and responsible use of the marine environment through voluntary codes of conduct.
