Communications Assistant Project Manager (Part-time)

Role will be based with project partners at Natural England.

Apply before 11:55 pm on Sunday 14th August 2022

This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the EU LIFE funded Recreation ReMEDIES project. Recreation ReMEDIES (Restoring and Mitigating Erosion and Disturbance Impacts affecting the Seabed) seeks to improve the condition of subtidal and intertidal habitats such as seagrass and maerl in 5 Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) in southern England: Isles of Scilly, Fal & Helford, Plymouth Sound & Estuaries, Solent Maritime and Essex Estuaries. It will achieve this by working with a number of partners, including the Marine Conservation Society, Ocean Conservation Trust (National Marine Aquarium’s charitable arm), Plymouth City Council and the Royal Yachting Association, to deliver improved management of recreational impacts, better stakeholder awareness and demonstrate habitat restoration/management techniques including seagrass restoration and infrastructure improvements in key sites.

The project needs an experienced Communications Assistant Project Manager to help deliver awareness raising and engagement activities. A key focus of the project is on changing stakeholder behaviour to ensure that sensitive habitats are recognised as a valued asset and behaviours are influenced to mitigate further damage.
The project will be targeting activities at a range of stakeholders including recreational boaters, bait collectors, school groups and the general public and engaging with a network of organisations such as management authorities, research centres and other LIFE projects. The Communications Officer will be crucial to get the right messages across to the right audiences. The Communications Officer will work closely with the Project Manager, the Defra Communications team and core partners with assistance from the Project Steering Group.

Key tasks/accountabilities:

• Manage and create content for the project’s website and social media channels
• Implement and update the project Communications Plan
• Oversee engagement and communications activities across the project and provide support to project partners delivering these actions
• Design and deliver national workshops and events (including interim and end of project conferences)
• Design and commission dissemination tools and interpretation materials for a range of channels and platforms
• Develop and implement a media plan, identifying opportunities to promote the project through local and national media (including social media)
• Assist in developing a community engagement programme to include events/outputs for schools, volunteers and other stakeholders
• Recording evaluation and feedback information from project communications and engagement work
• Ability to work as part of a team including a network of partners and stakeholders.
